Soft shackles for clew

Post by x-man12345 »

I have just received a couple of soft shackles, rated for 1.5 tons.

I have been looking for a safe way of attaching sheet to clew for the jib and staysail, that does not snag on the forestay.
Has anyone else tried these?
Will fit them and let you know.

I had ss shackles on mine when I bought it, but I took them off and just use a cow hitch now.

I found this at first

I thought I would have a go until I looked at the stop knot
At that point I bought two online. May still have a go at them if I get the right rope.
I'll let you know.

Mast back in place :D. Took the advice of Dennis and fitted an eye nut for the peak halyard. Fitted it with a couple of shaped penny washers between the eye nut and the mast, this will spread the weight. I think this tang has been moving and had let some water in. The little piece of soft wood I found was in way of this.
We fitted the soft shackles to the clews, they fit very nicely.
Bought some 4mm Liros D-Pro and had a go at making these.
First step is easy.
The knot is a little tricky but not too bad. I posted a picture in Ladybird's album.

...here is another interesting example of use for soft shakles.
Works very fine, sail easy attached to the mast and reefing without any trouble.

Kind regards
