Jackstays

Post by Ru88ell »

Has anyone rigged jackstays?

I seem to have a year of single handing ahead of me, so have been thinking about safety at sea. Jackstays would be good. Has anyone rigged any, and, if so, how?

I've been playing with jack-stays last summer.
First I installed two jack-stays from the transom cleats to the sampson post.
Secondly jack-stays from the winches to the sampson post.
It turned out to be not very practical. It all interferes with the fore hatch.
Finally I installed two U-bolts in the font-side of the cockpit, just above the floor. Now I can clip on while in the cockpit or below decks. I can reach the whole cockpit while hooked.
When I have to go on deck I clip on the halyards or the shrouds.
This is not an ideal solution, may I'm going to install some hard-points on the mast or on the tabernacle.

Thanks Bert. I've got two fixed points in the cockpit already. I'm only 50, so still quite mobile on deck, but you never know. I'm going to Zephyr today so will have a look at where I could sensibly run them. My immediate thought is from near the winch, outside the halyard deck blocks, and to the Samson post.
