2011 Sailing Meets (following Ru88ell's thread re Zephyr)

Good evening Ru88ell

I'd love to do Rutland. I've done a lot of racing at your
near neighbour Grafham but Rutland looks a more attractive
proposition. I'm happy to raft up and chill out these days

No engines no sweat!

I realise it's a long way but I have asked the sailing secretary
at Ullswater Yacht Club if there is an appropriate weekend
we could attend. We do have a Regatta Weekend followed
by Ullswater Week in early August. I lost my *********
there in the 60's.

Perhaps there is an equivalent week in the South?

Winter "to do" lists all prepared?

Rutland is still 2 hours for me; I live 16 miles west of Brum! I suggested it as there are already 7 or 8 CC19's there so we might get a good turnout.

Simon Head also mentioned a week cruising out of Craobh Haven in June. I need to decide between that or the Semaine du Golfe in Morbihan, Southern Brittany, which has had up to three CC19's attend before.

Ullswater is nice too for a long weekend.

We really need to formalise a calendar for meets in 2011.

I would organise a cruise in Scotland in 2011 from Largs (Whit)- I will be sailing with my daughter (Son doing GCSEs).

Dependent on weather we could get to Arran (Holy Isle) then over to Cambletown and back up over the Butes to Largs, stopping at Lochranza on Arran on the way up. Even if the weather is a little inclement you can always have fantastic day sails in the Clyde due to the shelter that is offered. Another good one is to sail to Rothesay for the pitch and put or the teashop at the top of Cumbrae!

I would always start with day sailing followed by a cruise on a meet like this. The itinary would be determined by the experience of crews (and the weather at the time).

Its just nice to sail in company!

If the distance to Rutland is worth comment, Craobh is 200 miles from Newcastle!

In the late eighties the locals called it concrete Craobh. I gather it is now run by the
same folk as Kip Marina and the facilities are excellent.

I spent my honeymoon windsurfing on Tiree with our first night at Crinan,
just up (down?) the coast: magic yacht basin and expensive hotel! The coast is
attractive and the sailing fabulous. It's the road miles that are offputting.

Sounds like a two or three week trip.

Put me down for Largs. (certainly nearer than Croabn Haven!) My wife was only telling friends tonight that I was doing something with a boat at Whit, so she would go to Croyde with them!?!!?

Sorted. Two white CC19's on the water together. Would that be a first?

The August Conwy River Festival in North Wales looks good too. They have a Nobby and Gaffer event on the Sunday. There's also a three day cruise to Caernarfon and back.

Hello all

The Trail-Sail Association usually do a Clyde cruise from Largs during Spring Holiday week (school hol. dates).
It could get busy for launching.

I will definitely keep this one in mind, I cannot commit yet though.

To take advantage of the Royal Wedding I've booked 26th, 27th and 28th April to give me 11 days to play with - taking into account Good Friday and Easter Monday, the wedding Friday and May Day.

Allowing for the 29th to 2nd May with the family, I have best part of a week for sailing. Is anyone else available 22nd to 27th April to squeeze in a bit of an adventure?

Hi Russell,
I don't suppose you will be trailing to Greece just yet! Congratultions on Zephyr. As they say in Greece 'Kalo risiko'... This means good roots, probably the last thing you need on a sailing boat, but there you go.

Don't forget, if your wife needs a bit of pursuation to get the sailing bug in UK waters, you are welcome to join us on Kaliope out here. It never fails to work (or at least not so far). Simon will be posting another little Kaliope Adventure soon, when you will see many of our friends and visitors enjoying a sail. This even includes Piti (from madrid) who came sailing with their 6 week old baby.

Have a good winter... I am writing this in Colchester having arrived here by car at 4am this morning. All of europe was white! Can't wait to get home for Christmas!
