CC19 Rallies/Gatherings 2027

Post by bellalistair »

Last night a motley collection of individuals met up on Zoom to discuss potential association events for next year, I thought it worth capturing a brief summary here. If you were not there and would like to consider joining one or more events then further discussion is likely to be in a WhatsApp group, if you have WhatsApp and would like to be added then please let Paul Hardy, Malcolm Sadler or I know (or indeed anyone else already involved). If you don't use WhatsApp then please let me know and I will make sure to post timely updates here.

Three events are tentatively proposed

Scotland - Likely May/June
Several people have commitments around that time so a poll is proposed to pick the best dates.
An intention to gather for a fortnight due to the tow distance to get there, though options for a week may arise. Launch at Dunstaffnage (nr Oban) and head out to Tobermoray, Loch Sunart, possibly Coll, .... The precise itinerary will not be set in advance since it will be highly weather dependent, though there is plenty of shelter available in the area. This is likely to be a fairly off grid affair with numerous nights at anchor rather than in marinas/harbours. If that is new to you though, don't be put off, there will be plenty of experience there to help and we always work together.

Falmouth - Late July
Plans for a southern gathering based around the Fal estuary and Helford river. Likely some days walking on the southwest coastal path.

Norfolk Broads - Late September
Launching at Horning and likely heading towards the southern broads, this one later in the season, once the tourists have reduced, in some very protected waters which are excellent for the Cape Cutter. Yes there are bridges but there will be plenty of help available (and those with lightweight carbon fibre masts have promised not to laugh at those of us with traditional wooden variety!).

Other discussion noted:

Semaine du Golfe du Morbihan
This event in France has been well enjoyed by Cape Cutters that have attended previous years and some boats may well return in 2027 but thoughts of an organised significant CC19 attendance haven't yet come to pass due to the ferry costs.

Netherlands ?2029?
In 2024 two CC19 joined the Netherlands Old Gaffers Association 20th anniversary gathering and thoroughly enjoyed the Dutch waterways. Thoughts of an increased CC19 attendance in the future were mooted with interest, though again ferry costs are notable.

Sponsorship
Finally I should make note of the kind offer from Cape Yachts (the current CC19 builder) to support and sponsor our events,

Hopefully I haven't missed or misrepresented anything, and hope to see you on the water at one or more of the events!
