Longing for CC19

Hello everyone.

I'm saving hard to buy a CC19 for my 50th in 2012 but couldn't hold off getting involved with the forum in the meantime. I've been sailing for 12 years or so, hold RYA Day Skipper, VHF, and have been chartering yachts and racing my Laser2000 since 2001.

I was a committee member of the Laser2000 CA for a number of years where I pushed family sailing and cruising events. I've not sailed the Laser2000 for almost a year as my sons have lost interest and my wife can't stand sailing. I did manage to get her out in a Shrimper this August; a trip from Mylor to Helford and back. She quite liked it, so slowly, slowly catchy monkey!

I'm tempted to think that a CC19 would more than satisfy my needs via single handing, and if Aquaphobia (wife) will come with me from time to time that would be a bonus. To that end I've already visited HM and we'll be going to Southampton.

I'm more than happy to crew if anyone needs extra hands in the meantime.

Welcome to the forum.

You will find the CapeCutter ideal for single handed sailing, I sail alone most of the time and thoroughly enjoy it. My wife also does not like sailing, more specifically she does not like windy weather, rain, or any temperature below 30 C. Needless to say she does not often accompany me. In fact she has not yet sailed on Mary Ann (although she has sailed on Fank Dierke's Katrina).

If you are ever in Northumberland contact me, and we can arrange a sail.

I sympathise with you and Dennis. Likewise Kathryn was not a keen sailor but she did enjoy a flotilla holiday in the Greek Ioanian a few years back.

So you could move to Greece like us and sail here. Kathryn now loves Kaliope and is often the one to say lets go sailing... We hop on our little Honda motorbike and are at the harbour side in 5 minutes. I paddle out to the boat on my surfboard and we are underway in minutes. It is the most perfect mooring and set up... Costs so far this year having now sailed for 4 months .... nil!

That said I love sailing in the UK and don't mind a bit of cold personally...

Have International cert's of competance caught up with your neck of the wood?.

I made an enquiry recently and it was suggested that I would need to brush up
close proximity and marina work. How long? 2 weeks!

Hi David,
I believe an ICC is required in Greece. I had one some year ago, at that time as a day skipper the RYA issued an ICC without further assessment. If you have an RYA Coastal Skipper or YM Certificate of Competence, this is recognised internationally, therefore superceding the need for the ICC...

To be sure check this out with the RYA, but it was the position back in the early 90's when I had the ICC

P.S. we took some visitors sailing today. A very nice young couple from Spain. They loved the boat! With them they had their 6 week !! old son. We sailed about 10nm and dad even did a nappy change down below (on the boat I mean), whilst undersail on a rather lumpy broad reach.... Is this a record?? Certainly not covered on the ICC!

Wow! Offers of a sail in Keilder and Greece. Fantastic! I'm rarely that far north, but don't rule it out. As for Greece, I can say even Aquaphobia seemed interested.

I've just finished reading about Colonel Mike's circumnavigation in his CC19. Fantastic. I think doing Wales might fit my budget.

Looks like my longing is soon to be over. I've had my offer for CC19 number 47 accepted, and I hope to collect sometime during November.
