CC19 Rally 2018

It is proposed that we have a rally in 2018 in Scotland.

The dates are to be Saturday 26th May until Sunday 3rd June, this is the late spring holiday week. Obviously, as has happened in the past, individuals may opt to extend these dates adding time either before or after the "official" rally.

It is suggested that the rally should start (and end) at Largs. Two members (Gary Oldfield and Malcolm Sadler) who cruised that area this year, have volunteered to do the organisation, although the details are yet to be finalised and are still open to discussion.

It is an area of Scotland I am familiar with, but on dry land only. I am certainly looking forward to it.

Hi Dennis

You can count me in. Its quite a long journey for me so I'll probably try to get more than one week in the area either by staying up there for two weeks in early June or by leaving the boat there and making two or three trips before towing it back. If anyone else is planning a cruise in the area outside the rally week please let me know.

Hello All

Gary and I are meeting on Wednesday (prior to doing the London Boat Show on Thursday) to come up with some suggested itineraries for the Rally (and for some days after it as several of us will be staying on to 6 or 7 June)

As an initial point, could I invite your views on anchoring overnight? Personally, I have not yet dropped my anchor in my first 2 seasons of sailing Rondo and am apprehensive (and will need some tutoring from you more experienced salts), but that is no reason to plan only for pontoons or visitor moorings if the rest of you are happy anchoring in those waters.

Obviously we will always need alternative plans according to wind direction, as few anchorages are good for all points.

I should mention that in making suggestions, Gary and I will be relying heavily on the Clyde Cruising Club "Sailing Directions and Anchorage" 2nd Ed 2016 as we have only visited the area the once by sea (plus my own land-based recce last November).

The SDA gives numbers of visitor moorings at each location and merits and demerits of each possible anchorage. Better first hand knowledge from other members who are familiar with the anchorages will be welcome. Please get in touch via this string and we can then exchange mobile nos. to talk through things more easily.

PS - in any event we should certainly expect to take enough dinghies/tenders between us. Even if we plan to overnight exclusively on pontoons, fall-back plans will involve swinging moorings.
