Mast cross section

Post by David Hudson »

Can anyone supply me with a plan / cross section diagrams of the lower and upper sections of the mainmast?

I have some fittings to attach to the mast and don't want to damage the masthead cabling.

Hello David

As luck would have it, my mast is currently lying in my garage (getting some extra varnish). And I have just looked at it for you.

There is a hole about 15mm square which goes down the length of the mast.

The mast is made from two pieces of timber, and on mine the groove is cut in the port side piece (before the two pieces are glued together).

At the top of the mast this hole is central in a fore and aft direction but is on the port side of the centre line.

However, at the foot of the mast the hole is only 30mm from the front face of the mast but is still on the port side of the centre line (due to the way it has been made).

I hope this helps. However there is no garantee that they will all be the same. I assume that the groove is in a straight line between those two points.

Best of luck

Dennis
