Hi Nick. Congratulations on your purchase. I think this is the boat that I saw last year in Weymouth marina but it didn't seem to be sailing very often. My boat Sapphire is based in the area but at the moment without a permanent home. In her first two years she has spent periods in Weymouth marina, Ridge Wharf at Wareham, and Cobbs Quay in Poole (next to Davis boat yard). Look forward to seeing you sailing on the South Coast. Next years' Cape Cutter week will be in Chichester so that would be a good opportunity for you to meet other owners.

congratulations - I am sure you will loads of fun with Iris and Jackie (... should I be writing this???).

I have a 6hp-Honda of 35 kgs - that is definitely on the heavy side, especially if you don't plan on leaving it mounted. Getting it in and out is hard on your back.

Another thing to consider is the aperture in the well that the propeller will have to go through. I bought the Honda, because the screw of my beloved 9.9-Yamaha would not fit through the hole and a smaller prop wouldn't fit the engine. I made a template and found that even a number of 6hp-models had props (high thrust) on the too large side.

Hi Nick. To add to the last post the Cape Cutter operational manual from Honnor Marine advises a maximum weight of about 25kg for the outboard. I have a 6 hp Yamaha which is 26kg and is plenty powerful enough but of course doesn't have electronic ignition. On the other hand it starts very easily and I wouldn't want to have to handle anything heavier.

Sue & I are both looking forward to taking delivery of No 60, hopefully before Christmas. She will be berthed on Windermere at Newby bridge with an occasional trailer sail to places further afield as we develop our experience.
We have had a powerboat for a good few years where we enjoyed boating with our 2 boys( now fledged) on Windermere before the ban, and then Loch Lomond, but our dream for the past few years is to get into cruising under sail.
Being members of Elton Sailing club in Bury we have done a bit of dinghy sailing but Cruising is going to be new to us and the CCA looks like the place to get some 1st class advice. Looking forward to the adventure !!
