Is the “baylee 2 & 3” inflatable the ideal tender for a Cape Cutter 19?

With a weight of less than 5kg and a packed size of 650x200x250mm and a super tough material, it looks impressive! The downside, however, is price!

These “row boats” (inflatables) are made in Canada by a Kayak company. Unfortunately they only have one agent in the UK located in a remote place called Penrith and they never appear to advertise in any sailing boat magazines or exhibit, so it is unlikely I will ever see one (my Tag does not allow me to travel further north than Watford)! Therefore if any of you “Lakers” are in the vicinity and happen to stumble on the place and see one, I would be very interested in your opinion.

Ah Penriith, gateway to the Lakes and where men are men and sheep are nervous.

These "boats" were originally built in shipyards on Wearside for bathing the bairns
after a hard day down the mine. Larger versions were spurned by grown ups who used
to bath in the river Wear. In truth, as pollution increased, they were just going through the motions.

Hello David

It certainly looks an interesting piece of kit.

The prices are eyewatering on the Knoydart website.
However the manufacturers website is less expensive.
e.g. Baylee 2 HW Knoydart £1398, Baylee 2 HW Feathercraft CDN $1400.
As a CDn $ is currently £0.63 that makes it £882. It is certainly worth thinking about at that price.

How is the diesel installation going?

Thanks for your comments and apologies for my late reply.

Your figure of £882 certainly looked more tempting so I checked out the final likely delivered price from Canada taking into account import duty, VAT, delivery and insurance by using an on line import calculator programme. The expected price then rose to approximately £1,200.00 which is only around £200.00 cheaper than the UK agent’s price! That is, as you say, still eye watering stuff and it could be a long time before the Chinese get around to doing a sensibly priced copy! Never-the-less, there does not appear to be anything else on the market that approaches it for weight, strength and compactness (when folded)! I wonder if anyone in this country has actually purchased one?

Regarding the inboard engine, I’m afraid I’m not made of the stuff of David H’s “Weardsiders” (see previous post on this Thread) as it’s been a case of “cold weather stopped play.” I have just started work on it again and can report that the cockpit hatch and cover mouldings are made and fitted as is the engine control nacelle moulding which proved to be quite complex and time consuming. I now expect to launch around the end of March. I will send Simon H some more photos for updating the articles section on the installation.

If anyone is looking for a light tender, these were at the boatshow and are pretty light. They looked well put together.
