International Capecutter Week 2016

2016 International Cape Cutter 19 Rally

Saturday 28th May – Sunday 5th June 2016.

Bosham

The 3rd International Cape Cutter 19 Rally will be based in Chichester harbour, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, from Saturday 28th May to Sunday 5th June 2016. We will be based at Chichester Marina at the eastern end of the harbour, a modern marina with excellent facilities only 4 miles from Chichester’s City centre.

The event is being organised by our President, Mike Brooke (former owner of Sea Badger II) with enthusiastic support from Paul Turner (Sapphire), Dennis Ogle (Mary Ann) and Charles Erb (Aurora)

Chichester Harbour is a perfect area for a Cape Cutter Rally offering sheltered cruising within the natural harbour, quiet anchorages and easy access to the popular cruising grounds of the Solent. We have tried to organise a programme for the week, (see below), which takes full advantage of the beauties of the area and provides something for everyone. Some of the venues for overnight stops are still to be confirmed so there may be minor changes but nothing significant. Mike Brooke has kindly agreed to use his 18 foot harbour launch as a safety boat / mother ship throughout the week. He will also act as Racing Officer for the 2nd official Cape Cutter Race on Friday 3rd June.

Chichester Yacht Club has extended us a very warm welcome including use of their large clubhouse, restaurant and bar for the whole week (www.cyc.co.uk). We will hold our annual dinner there on Thursday 2nd June. Evening meals will also be organised for a number of other evenings during the week for those who wish to take part. For other evenings or as an alternative there are plenty of opportunities including Chichester Yacht Club, the Spinnaker Restaurant, the Boat House Cafe or the many restaurants in the centre of Chichester.

The Solent is not the cheapest sailing area in the country but Chichester Marina has agreed an 18% discount to £20 per night if we can get 12 boats there for the week. The discount will reduce to 10% (£22) for 10+ boats. We will need to pay a further £29.50 for a round-trip use of the self-service slipway but that includes free car parking and free trailing parking for the week. We will all be moored in the same part of the marina and we have requested that the fleet is moored within a reasonable distance of one of the WC/Shower blocks. We are still negotiating prices for our 3 nights away from the base marina and are again hoping for significant discounts. Please note that as Chichester Marina are providing our base for the whole week the £20 per night charge is payable for the whole week.

So the next step is to get as many people as possible signed up for the rally. As an initial step please send an email to Paul Turner via: (webmaster@capecutter19association.org) confirming your attendance and whether for the full week or part. Paul will send a more detailed entry form to interested parties in due course. It would be good to get confirmed numbers by the end of January so that we can confirm bookings and prices. Please encourage anyone you know with a Cape Cutter to join in for a week’s fun and games in Chichester Harbour and the Solent.
