I've added some pictures of the engine well foam bung in the Zephyr album. When I get chance I'll get some shots of the fixing arrangement too.

Hello Russell
That looks worth a try.
How dense is the foam? What kind of foam is it?
Why the peculiar shape on the underside?
PS.
Cloudless sky with brilliant sunshine up here today, wish I was sailing!
Boat is now on my drive ready to go to HM for some TLC. Expect to be afloat early March

It is quite dense Dennis, to the point that I can barely push my thumb into it.
If I was going to make one I think I'd secure some cardboard shuttering to the underside of the hull, put a plastic bag in the hole, then shutter above., Then I'd inject some expanding builder's foam. That should give you enough of a plug to work from.

I've added another image which shows the fixing bolt. It's fitted to the hull and passes through the foam, a 100mm diameter perspex washer, a washer and then a wing nut. It all works very well.
