Just a comment on the bowsprit shrouds, gents. On Falcon I find that the bowsprit will raise easily without slackening the shrouds at all. I'm guessing that there is probably a slight variation in the positioning of the shroud plates relative the the bowsprit mounting between various boats/manufacturer.
Although like Dennis I have his same arrangement for tensioning the shrouds, the same applied even with the 'full length' wire shrouds.

You are quite right.

I have been studying the photos I took of "Falcon" earlier this year and comparing them with "Mary Ann".

The shroud plates on Falcon are tucked up under the rubbing strip, whereas there is about a one inch gap on Mary Ann. Also, the rubbing strip is deeper on Mary Ann.

I estimate that the plates on Mary Ann must be about 40mm lower than Falcon.
