It should not be a problem if the knot is deninitely smaller than the gap.

I've had to carry out remedial works on my grating since it turns out that the cockpit floor is cambered. I'd not noticed before. I've had to measure the camber and scribe it on the bottom bearers and remove quite a bit - say 10mm in the middle.

I just have to complete the varnishing and then I'll get some pictures uploaded.

It might have been easier to put a 10mm strip along each side (on the underside, of course). I have just checked my (HM) grating, it has 23mm wide x 7mm thick strips along the whole length on both side of the underside.

My preparations for the season are also well advanced. I have varnished all spars, mast and tiller. I will treat the toe-rail and rubbing strakes when I collect my boat from it's winter storage.

I have also fitted the (Classic Marine) stainless steel mast-band gooseneck fitting. So I am looking forward to sailing this season with the boom about 9" higher. I will post some photos when I get the boat on the water.
