Living up here in the frozen north, where you can go for weeks without seeing another living soul, I was pleasantly surprised to stumble across a CC19 drying out in Lindisfarne (Holy Island) harbour.
I saw a blue CC19 yesterday leaving Port Bannantyne headed across Rothesay Sound, then another one today moored off Kames on West Kyle. I did sail over and got a picture and had a shout conversation with the owner, a Geordie by the sounds of it. He bought her from HM last year but didn't know the number, just that it was a SA boat. Three on technically the same piece of water - is that a record?
I can probably identify the "Geordie" owned CC19 you came across. It was probably Frank Stewart with hull number 17, now called "Bernicia". It is the other half of the Kielder Water Capecutter fleet. Frank is a member of Kielder Sailing Club which caters for (mainly) dinghy sailors (plus lots of Drascombes/Original Devons). The club has a camping/sailing outing each year during the Spring Holiday week in that area.
I have not been on the water this bank holiday due to family committments (a golden wedding aniversary "do" in Chester). I am keeping an eye on the weather forcasts and will be out on Kielder Water at the first possible opportunity. I expect to pass the 1000 Nm mark with Mary Ann on my next sail, log currently stands at 981 Nm.
Hi Dennis
It was Bernicia - blue hull and tan sails. I'm sat in Tarbert still, but due to head off back that way. It's blowing up tomorrow and Friday, so I don't want to get stuck with the prospect of Inchmarnock Sound in an F5/6.
That would be Aurora #86 belonging to Charlie (Erbster). I was with him for the day yesterday for a fabulous sail out of Holyhead on the final day of the traditional boat festival.
Yes, it was us. We enjoyed a week of hospitality at Holyhead marina- free launch, free berth. This was in the run up to the old gaffers association Traditional Boat Festival last weekend. And a jolly good do it was too!
Shame about the weather though- it was very windy all week and rained a lot too. Sadly, this prevented us from doing more than sail around the bay. Nevertheless we had a lovely time (myself, wife and two kids).
I would certainly attend that event again- it would be nice if we could get several CCs there.
