Dear All
getting spruced up for summer, first of many quiz questions, to brighten up the interior what paint type would anyone recommend for the hull sides.
As we intend to spend a fair proportion of our sailing time in the Med what options have owners come up with for sun canopies / awnings etc. I am picturing two yokes fore and aft on the boom with say lightweight tubes forming an oblong with a nice blue and cream striped canvas canopy, perhaps secured to the edge of the spray hood frame. Any ideas, examples or pictures out there?
Plus to save me looking, where is best to get roller reefing for the staysail, "Robyn" is a SA boat with North Sails, I have seen much written but not where to get one at a sensible price.

I'm afraid I cannot help much, but would be happy to see anything you come up with in the future. When we are out and about in Greece we normally rely on shade from the sails being avaliable somewhere on the boat. Then a t shirt and sun hat does it. The problem is I really don't want anything too bulky or hard to rig up and that will prevent sailing. So when we had a baby aboard and a light wind we relied on a hand held beach umbrella and it worked. We tend to do short passages (up to 2 hrs normally) interspersed with swims or visits to tavernas or beaches... As for the interior white gel coat is pretty bright. Is your boat painted inside?

You just can't beat a bit of Lotus.
Hi,
thanks Chris and David for the replies, although Davids didn't help much but at least you read the post.
I will keep you posted on the awning, waiting until the sprayhood is on before fabricating, the interior has fairly stuborn streaks from condensation. The interior is the stipple effect so looks like washable paint might brighten it up didn't know if anyone had done anything similar. Sure I saw articles in PBO recently about using everyday paints in marine applications, just haven't found it yet.
Must dash teas on the table and as you well know Lotus tastes best when it's fresh;).
Regards Simon

Seriously though.....................
I have an unlined white pvc sheet with eyelets of about 2.5 x 1.5 metres
which I support at each end with boat hook length poles.
This set up is cheap, gets round the problem of tying guys to non
existant guard wires but is not keen on too much wind.
Regards
David
You've seen the photo's of my pneumatic awning. My recommendation comes
from an ageing but dedicated gadget man.
Now b.. off and eat your ambrosia!

Mmmmmmmmm Ambrosia (in a Homer sort of way)
Hi David
thanks for the reply, as you might imagine being strapped up and useless, apart from 1x left hand typing, is somewhat frustrating as i have a new toy to be playing with and can't. So i am left with talking about it and big ideas, many of which i suspect will be downgraded to simple form/function due to lack of time before sailing starts, surgeons/pins/plates permitting.
Keep up the sport, i have lots of other dumbass ideas and projects for the sporting amongst you to have a little target practise with.
Anyway how did you know i was a Greek demi-god when it came to the puddings:p?
Have you seen the photos:eek:?
