I am finding that I run out of water too quickly when on longer trips and was wondering about fitting a flexible bag like this:

Large capacity when needed, but only partially filled to save space/weight at other times? Anyone tried this? Any thoughts?

I have thought about the same thing.

At the moment I am using a 20 litre collapsible water bottle.
It is cube shaped and will (just) squeeze through the cupboard door beneath the basin when full, which is where I keep it. It is twice the capacity of the bottle supplied with the boat by HM.

It is widely available in camping shops for about £5.

I looked at them too; a much cheaper option than a "marine" product. However, I want to use that cupboard for food storage

If I'd kept Zephyr I would definitely have fitted one. Lucy has a large flexible water talk with electric pump (:p) and I find it really useful. I prefer bottled water for drinking, but use the bag water for cooking, making tea and washing up.

I think David Peck was talking about doing something like this when we were in Morbihan.

I had them on my previous boat. They worked perfectly but like all potable water supplies and kit you need to keep them really clean. I never drank the water out of mine with boiling it first and administering a dose of tea or coffee to the cup.

I take your point, but I need to be self-sufficient for about 4 days with 3 or 4 aboard. You can wash in the Baltic and do the washing up in it too, but that's still quite a bit of water.

Charles - I think I've read elsewhere that you're planning a trip to Scandinavia (this summer?). Probably the archipelago on the Swedish east coast, but if you are going to be anywhere up the Swedish west coast at any time - be sure to let us know in here in Oslo.
