Cockpit Tent

As a newby to the CC19 I have been contemplating buying the purpose-made cockpit supplied through Honnor Marine. However, I can foresee two drawbacks with this idea: cost (at nearly £1,000 this is becoming prohibitive) and size when stowed (my fear is that it will swamp the cabin when not in use). On looking through previous posts I see that several owners have successfully adapted flysheets from Vango 'tunnel tents' with a hoop at either end. As there are several different models of Vango presently on the market, can those in the know say which model(s) have worked well for them? I wonder also how stable they are if the wind gets up? They certainly represent a great saving on cost and a massive difference on space when packed. Many thanks. Paul

I had a cockpit tent and sold it as I found it was very low, having the boom as its ridge, and it sloped in sharply from the sides which meant you couldn't really sit on the seats. I now have a Vango Meteor 300 (I think you will find that the model names change, but it is a 3 person tent) which allows me to stand up fully inside - a luxury for us CC19 owners! I have not tested it in a high wind, but try to find sheltered anchorages that don't need me to.

Many thanks Donald. That's a useful clue to the model of tent needed and certainly a lot more cost-effective than the bespoke version.
