Mast travelers

Postby Lee » Tue Jun 08, 2021 8:30 pm

I've come away from the cape cutter rally wanting to do loads of mods to Kira, the first is to make some mast travellers, Simon has leather covered rings on Halcyon and this is what I want to copy, I'm thinking of using 10mm 316 stainless tube clad in leather, I need an internal ring diameter or advice on how much bigger it needs to be than the mast. Secondly I haven't decided how the attachment will work, in the attached pic it shows a hook arrangement but I was thinking of a tube welded at the back of the ring where a shackle bolt could pass thru..... any ideas? Then there's the leather, stiff hide or a softer suede?? Any advice or ideas would be appreciated

I put leather on my gaff jaws from classic marine. They sell the needles, twine etc too. My mast seems to be less worn after that work.

I’m not clear in my mind how the sail would attach to the mast hoops.
