Gaff Jaws

A newbie to Gaff Sailing so apologies if it is an uneducated question.

My problem is trying to keep the gaff jaws close to the mast , and not going off kilter.
I have a set of beads on the fore side of the mast but they are pretty loose, ( previous owners positioning) so I am not sure whether there is much to much slack, and the beads should be really tight the mast, would beads on a solid bar work ,or would that be too restrictive.

Any advice on the best way to connect the halyard would be great, the suggestion in the manual is not the easiest to carry out.

Thanks

Hi Dominic

I have never found the gaff jaws a problem, here is a pic of my setup:

As you can see the beads are quite slack. When sailing the jaws get pressed into the mast by wind pressure.

I also did not like the original halyard attachment, hence the eyebolt through the mast.

Hi All,

Does anyone has the original drawing or an address where you can purchase a replacement claw?

We have an issue with ours and might be searching for a replacement.

Thanks for any info,
Thanks,

Jeroen
