Pack-a-main

Postby Peter Lightbody » Mon Mar 03, 2025 4:49 pm

Hi All,

Looking at getting a pack-a-maine for the boat.

https://www.cjmarine.co.uk/products/sai ... tack-pack/

Will just make it easier to drop the sail single handed.

Have spoken to CJ Marine and they where wondering if there is anyone in the Chichester area, with a boat rigged, they could take a look?

I'm down in Jersey.

Grateful for any offers and I'll more than happily buy a beer for any kind individuals if they can help.

Hi Peter,
This season I intend to design and create a stackpack for the mainsail, with a bit of trying I think I can find a decent solution, for a fraction of the cost of the Packs offered by commercial suppliers. I have not read about other CC19 owners having a stackpack installed, it certainly would be interesting to find out if others have any thoughts or experience regarding this topic!

Hi Pete - there are a couple of threads on using the topping lift to gather up the gaff and flaked mainsail.
This one may be useful:

I am not aware of anybody developing a stack pack although some have installed more elaborate lazy jacks.
I generally sail solo and find that the topping lift works well enough to control the sail when lowering it provided I have a couple of sail ties ready to deploy. I use the type with a clip so that I can attach them with just one hand.

You may have already sorted this, Peter. But I have a CC rigged in Emsworth which I'd be happy to show to the people you're considering. By the way, to Justin's point, I've also just fitted lazyjacks which I expect to be a great help in dropping the main single-handed.
regards, Peter
