Electric motor

Postby erbster » Wed Apr 18, 2012 7:54 pm

Hi all,

I am looking to buy a CC and see that Honnor are offering one on brokerage with an electric outboard. Does anyone have experience of these? I would think that they are much quieter than a petrol engine, though I am guessing the range (and/or speed) would be (quite a bit?) lower.

Would anyone care to comment?

Thanks
Charles

The electric motor was the only option for a sailing boat on Rutland water where internal combustion engines are not permitted on sailing boats (but are on the anglers boats). The electric is OK in still water as a get you home in no wind and for manouevering onto a pontoon or mooring but if you are intending to sail on open water you need an outboard. I'm sure Honnor would make some allowance on 86 or provide a second hand outboard.

Hello Charles

Welcome to the forum.

If you not have already done so, check out the posts/threads on this subject.

The boat on HM brokerage with the electric outboard belongs to Graham Shaw ("Grimshaw") who is a member of this association. I believe that he used an electric outboard because the boat was based on Rutland Water where "infernal combustion" motors are not allowed. You could e-mail him for more info.

Well done Graham

Your reply beat mine by one minute. Which of course makes my post happily redundant.
Cheers

Better two replies than none!
Thank-you gentlemen, both.

I'm going to Honnor this w/end.
